CapEd has been notified by a number of members who received a telephone call the weekend of 12/6/13 and 12/7/13, stating that their CapEd card has been suspended and that they must call an 800 number to reactivate the card.  Unfortunately, this is a scam and if you responded to the phone call and gave out any personal information (card number, Social Security number, date of birth, PIN code, etc.), you should contact CapEd right away.

As a reminder, the security of your information is our highest priority and CapEd will NEVER contact you and ask for personal information or your PIN. 

Should you receive a call like this after business hours or on the weekend and you inadvertently give out personal information, we highly recommend that you contact the 800 number on the back of your card and report it as compromised.

    I have already received three of these calls from an 877 number. Two to my cell, and even one to my office number. I remember this also happened not that long ago. It’s a sad world we live in when people are going to this much trouble to get peoples personal information.

      Good question Curtis! There was no compromise of member information at CapEd. This scam has hit members and non-members alike. As a credit union with a large membership base, scammers are able to target our region and have a high success rate of hitting actual members.

    I was unable to answer phone messages until Mon, but I had a message instructing me to dial a certain code to reactivate my card. Sadly, I did not even think about it being a scam; fortunately the number I called did not work. Thank you so much for the update.

    I got a call like this from a 953 number and I hung up.
    It was weird it said Cap Ed. I used my card at the Store just to make sure
    it went thru and then i knew it was a scam.
