Students next to hot air balloon basket

Wednesday, November 15, 2017 – Kenneth J. Carberry Elementary School received a visit from the CapEd Read to Rise Hot Air Balloon.

Over the summer, the students participated in the Read to Rise Summer Reading Program and read a total of 79,906 minutes! Because of their reading accomplishment, they were one of 5 elementary schools that won a visit from the CapEd Hot Air Balloon for an inflation demonstration at their school.

The students at Kenneth J. Carberry had a blast as they stood next to the hot air balloon basket and watched the flames fire off from the burner. Packing up the balloon takes some team work and a group of fourth graders were selected to take on the task to participate in that great team building activity. Their class is starting a science unit that will be exploring speed and velocity and hot air balloon aviation.
